ok...having my call with Christina over lunch break is not a good plan. I didn't want to go back to work! i was so inspired I wanted to start working on my assignments right away.
I did manage to get a few things done this evening - mostly research and working on my package pricing again. I'm trying to come up with better names than "digital album" when I'm talking about a Blurb album. But, of course, I can't let my customers know I'm designing a Blurb album for them, so...any suggestions?
I tried to find out what reprint prices were in the DC area, but I wasn't that successful. Most of the photographers didn't have their print prices on the sites. annoying. Anyway, what I did find was one photographer charges $20.00 for a 5x7, and the prices go up from there. Another starts their reprint prices at 45.00. ouch. Around here you can't charge more than $10 [if that much] for a 5x7. I have some serious restructuring to do.
Goals for tomorrow:
- go delete all photos I don't like from website
- think about pricing, do more research
- research Zenfolio and see about signing up

Pricing can be a very tricky thing. It's never consistent, even in the same area. Every photographer has his own price scale, because every photographer offers his own services. For starting out, it's usually best to set your prices in the low-mid range for your area, and then build as the demand for your services increase. It's a fine line. You don't want to be so high starting out that people don't consider you, but you don't want to be priced so low that people don't think you deliver quality. Hope you are successful.

How about your very own unique online viewing album? LOL! I don't know things like that are hard for me too... I'll keep thinking about it..

ReplyDeleteChenoa - that's exactly what it is - a Blurb book. I just like to call it an album so it raises the value for the customer. :) sneaky, eh?
Kristina - I would never have online viewing if I had to create it myself! :P I pretty much stink at stuff like that.
